I should update on the weekend and on the doctor's appointments, but I'm too tired. Fortunately for me, I wrote some weekend stuff down. The reunion was fun...and I'll transcribe more on that later.
We took Garrett into his doctor today. I found that the state insurance plan I'm on is the only one that the pediatrician's office doesn't have. *sigh* Good enough for the hospital, but not for the doctor. Grrr. It seems that Garrett isn't gaining weight fast enough for the doctor, though he is gaining a little weight. He's back up to almost 7 lbs 5 oz. - the doctor has said no more than 3 hours between feedings, period. So far, he's been waking up okay and has been eating...thankfully. I don't want to force-feed my child to make some doctor happy. We asked about the constipation, and he said that the baby probably isn't constipated at all but that his 'gut' is just starting to coordinate or something. Its working slower than an adults, in other words, and could create some discomfort. We are not to give him any water at all, the formula will keep him hydrated and his system working fine. Garrett, according to the doctor, can't have his belly space taken up by something that provides little to no nutritional value for him. *sigh*
After his appointment, was mine with the mid-wives. I forgot to ask about insurance to see if I could get it switched over to whatever the doctor's office takes. We chit-chatted a bit with the midwife, which was nice. She didn't make me feel guilty about not trying very hard to breast-feed. She said that its really an issue of whatever works for the family....I want to breast feed, but I think its just gotten so frustrating for me, that it sometimes seems hopeless. That, and we've been on the go so much, its hard to breast pump and keep up with it. We talked to her about the crib as well....she said that she understands that there comes a point when it just seems natural for the family, and the transition can be made fairly easily. Mom keeps saying though the longer I wait, the harder it will be. Truthfully, I like having him there with me....and it is easier to sleep when we bring him into our room (mainly because he'll sleep), but I do want my own bed back sometime soon. Opinions? Suggestions?
On a less anxious note - my incision is healing fine. The midwife said I can remove the medical tape as the skin is healed and its not really doing anything now. Yay! Oh, and I've forgot to mention, but I've been moving around without pain meds for a few days now. The midwife suggested I stay home for a bit though, to heal better and more completely. This week, we should be home most of the time, I think. Even so, I have a lot around the house that needs to be done...and I'm trying to get as much of it done as possible before Fenris goes back to work and I'm left on my own with the kids.
I think, in the next couple days, I'll do the updates that have been written down....the one from the hospital stay, and the one from the family reunion. Right now, I'm going to catch up on some email and LJ, then head to bed I think.
