Eh?!

Okay, I'm confused. I went to freeservers.com to set up a domain for me. It touts a free account, and looking over the fine print, I see nowhere where it states 'hidden' costs. Yet, when I fill out the registration, at the very end, it wants to know how I want to be billed. *scratches her head* Scuse me? Isn't it...oh, I dunno...FREE? I have the option of doing one year at $35 or two years at $70 for registration. So, if I'm paying to register the domain, what exactly, am I getting for free?

you can register a domain name for fairly cheap. i got mine from www.gandi.net 10 dollars a year

the price goes up when you're looking for hosting.

It looks like hosting is free - you just have to pay to purchase the domain name. Having the rights to a certain name is seperate from having space on somebody's server's hard drive to store your webpages. Make sense?

One thing you can do is purchase a domain name elsewhere from someone cheaper than $35 a year, and then use the domain you already own with freeservers to give you hosting for it. I haven't poked at them much, but they do mention being able to transfer a domain.
